Patients should request a referral to the Wound Center from their physicians.
All patients receive a thorough assessment and ongoing evaluation. The center provides patient education and risk factor counseling as well as the coordination of care among healthcare providers and assistance in maximizing insurance benefits.
Because of the specialized equipment required, consultations are usually performed at the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care. Treatments typically are performed once per day, five days per week, except for certain indications or emergencies. Transportation can be arranged for outpatients who cannot otherwise travel to the hospital for consultation or treatment.
After a patient is accepted into the treatment program, communication with the referring physician is regular and personalized. Information regarding the patient's progress will be sent to the referring doctor.
The Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital has two monoplace chambers where patients can rest, watch television or sleep while receiving HBOT and experience no discomfort.
