James D. Witt, FACHE, MBA, CHE, RN President & CEO, Provena Mercy Medical Center
Jim Witt is System President and CEO of Mercy Medical Center. In this role, he has strategic leadership and operations responsibility for Aurora-based hospital ministry. Jim previously served as System Vice President for Clinical Integration at Provena Health. In that role, he had responsibility for coordinating and supporting quality improvement, care management, and clinical innovation initiatives in the system's hospital and post-acute care ministries. A registered nurse, Jim has twenty-plus years of experience as a clinician, health care executive and consultant. In addition to unit director, case management and nursing administration positions, he has managed both a 120-bed skilled care facility and a hospital-owned physician practice. His hospital leadership experience includes developing and managing occupational medicine and health services for corporate clients.
Prior to joining Provena, Jim held consulting positions for nine years, first with William Mercer & Co. and subsequently in the Chicago practice of Ernst & Young. In these roles, he managed a range of projects, including medical management, clinical informatics, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic operations improvement for community hospitals, academic medical centers, and health care systems in Texas, Illinois, Florida and New York.
At Provena, Jim managed the implementation of our eICU, overseeing its operations as well as that of our UM resource center which recovered in excess of $7 million in payor-issued denials 2006. He has served as interim Nurse Executive and Quality Director in the hospitals, and is currently providing clinical leadership for the system's bar-code medication administration program.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and a Master of Business Administration with majors in finance and marketing. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
