Father William Grogan, System Director of Ethics for Provena Health, offered the invocation last evening at a dinner hosted by the Chicago Bar Association featuring Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Lord God, Now you may dismiss your servants in peace. As members of the Bar, we advocate for peace in the community. But we know there is no peace without justice as Paul VI taught us. That peace starts with your presence in our hearts. Tonight, we have been nourished with the words of guidance as well as the bounty from this table served by our brothers and sisters. We go forth this night to our homes and neighborhoods to build up a foundation in virtue and law to keep violence from claiming the lives of the young so close to your heart.
Shade us in your peace as we go forth this night to do your will with tomorrow’s dawn approaching. AMEN.
The Interfaith Dinner was held on Tuesday, March 10 at The Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Ct., Chicago. Archbishop Desmond Tutu provided the keynote address on the subject of gun violence. Archbishop Tutu is a world renowned human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Beginning with his opposition to apartheid in South Africa, Archbishop Tutu has worked tirelessly to spread peace, justice, and democracy, and to end racial divisions throughout the world.
