Provena Medical Group has achieved re-accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Accreditation distinguishes Provena Medical Group's physician practices for their commitment to providing the highest quality of care to patients and a safe work environment.
The highly discerning group of surveyors was particularly complimentary of Provena Medical Group's patient communication, physician documentation, financial reporting, quality improvement and risk management efforts, and medical records. This three-year distinction is a re-accreditation for Provena Medical Group, which had achieved the accolade in 2008 as well.
"At Provena Medical Group, our team works continuously toward service and operational excellence," said Ralph Fornari, Executive Director, Vice President, Provena Medical Group. "Accreditation from the AAAHC is a recognition of those efforts, and a reflection of the high quality of care we provide each day to exceed the expectations of those we serve."
Status as an accredited organization means that Provena Medical Group has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by AAAHC. Almost 5,000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are accredited by AAAHC. Not all seek accreditation and not all that participate in the on-site survey are granted the distinction.
Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by the AAAHC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by the association's expert surveyors - volunteer physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care. The survey is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
AAAHC accreditation is specifically for organizations that provide diagnostic or medical care on an outpatient basis - where an overnight stay would not be required. Among the types of ambulatory health care organizations that seek accreditation are ambulatory and office-based surgery centers, single and multi-specialty group practices, college health centers, dental group practices, community health centers, occupational health centers and managed care organizations.
Provena Medical Group is a network of 45 providers representing 12 specialties in 28 locations throughout Illinois. Provena Medical Group is part of Provena Health, a Catholic health care system that builds communities of healing and hope by compassionately responding to human need in the spirit of Jesus Christ. With six hospitals, five home health agencies, numerous primary and immediate care clinics, and 17 long-term care and residential centers, Provena provides a continuum of care and strives to be the preferred choice based on responsiveness to community needs, quality, value and innovation. The system is co-sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary and the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
About the AAAHC
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), founded in 1979, is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation with almost 5,000 organizations accredited nationwide. The AAAHC accredits a variety of ambulatory health care organizations, including ambulatory surgery centers, office-based surgery centers, endoscopy centers, college student health centers, military health care clinics, and large medical and dental practices. The Accreditation Association serves as an advocate for the provision of high-quality health care throughout the development of nationally recognized standards and through its survey and accreditation programs. AAAHC accreditation is recognized as a symbol of quality by third-party payers, medical organizations, liability insurance companies, state and federal agencies and the public.
