The Therapy Services staff works with individuals to help them regain lost mobility and function, or to make life changes that will help them adapt when functional skills are lost from serious injuries or other medical conditions.
Some of these include:
Physical therapists create treatment plans for patients to build body strength and improve flexibility, reduce pain and facilitate the patients return to a normal lifestyle. Presence Covenant has sophisticated balance equipment, treadmills, stationary bicycles, the latest in health club strengthening equipment and a Wii gaming system .
Occupational therapists help patients regain the ability to perform daily activities following an illness or injury. Home living situations are simulated to prepare the patients for activities such as hygiene, grooming, meal planning and light housekeeping.
Speech-language pathologists work with patients who have communication problems and swallowing disorders. They provide adult and pediatric speech therapy and use the latest technology to help the patient on the journey to independence. They also help in areas such as memory loss, poor judgment, and inability to sequence tasks.
Through Industrial Rehabilitation, injured workers gain safe re-entry into the working community, physicians gain information to substantiate return-to-work recommendations, and employers enjoy safer workers and decreased lost time. Work hardening provides tasks designed to progressively increase strength, endurance, balance and productivity to facilitate returning to work. Pre-employment physicals are designed to match the needs of the employer with the abilities of the employee. Tests are designed around the essential function of the job and are simulated in the department.
