Who We Are
For more than twenty-five years, PRO Ambulance Service of Presence Covenant Medical Center, has provided emergency transportation to Champaign County and surrounding communities. All PRO Ambulances are staffed by skilled paramedics licensed to provide critical, life-saving care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In early 1987, the Burnham City Hospital Auxiliary purchased 4 new Wheeled Coach Ambulances. On August 31st, 1987, PRO Ambulance began providing Basic Life Support ambulance service to residents of Champaign County. Within a few months, the ambulances were upgraded to the Advanced Life Support level and highly trained and experienced paramedics began providing advanced care.
Burnham Hospital and Mercy Hospital merged to form Presence Covenant Medical Center and PRO Ambulance continued as a department of the newly merged organization. Covenant Medical Center then merged with six other hospitals to form Provena Health.
PRO Ambulance is a member of the Presence Regional EMS System. Presence Regional EMS System is the largest EMS system in East Central Illinois. For more than ten years, the system has drawn on the resources of more than sixty independent EMS agencies, five hospitals and public access defibrillation programs in over 350 locations to provide emergency medical care to the residents of eight counties.
What We Do
Today, we are centrally located in Champaign-Urbana at 408 S. Neil in Champaign. We respond to over 10,000 calls every year in Champaign County and into neighboring counties where rural ambulance coverage is scarce. Currently, we are operating:
- A fleet of 10 Type III Advanced Life Support ambulances
- An ALS non-transport EMS Command vehicle
- An all terrain ILS non-transport vehicle
PRO Ambulance specializes in cardiac care and early detection of acute cardiac events. For patients complaining of chest pain or associated symptoms, our paramedics obtain a 12 lead EKG in the field and transmit it directly to the physician at the emergency room. If the need for immediate treatment is determined, the patient is treated with the appropriate cardiac medications, oxygen, continuous monitoring and is rapidly transported to the hospital for definitive treatment. The early detection of an acute cardiac event in the field will save enormous amounts of time once the patient arrives in the ER. This entire process increases your chances of recovery or survival with early cardiac care management.
