Provena Fortin Villa Learning Center offers a comprehensive preschool program for children ages 3-5. Our program is divided into two separate sections: Three-year-olds and Pre-Kindergarten (four- and five-year-olds). This allows for both groups of children to work on similar basic skills and themes while still enjoying age-appropriate activities.
We use a project-based approach when planning our themes and bi-weekly lessons, which means we pick a theme and offer many different opportunities to learn about that specific theme. Children are natural born experimenters, and we as teachers give them many options to just that! Doing a two-week theme helps us revisit the topic and use reptition for children to really understand the information rather than visit for just two or three days and forget. We set up the classrooms wtih may different materials for children to engage with the themes. Building these techniques in children at a young age helps them throughout their future schooling and life.
Our themes for the first half of 2012 include:
- January 2 - 13: Bears and Hibernation
- January 16 - 27: Nutrition
- January 30 - February 10: Community Helpers
- February 13 - 24: All about the Body/Dental Heatlh
- February 27 - March 9: Farm Life
- March 12 - 23: Spring, Flowers, Rain
- March 26 - April 6: Caterpillar Cycle/Butterfly
- April 9 - 20: Weather
- April 23 - May 4: Books
- May 7 - 18: Volcano
- May 21 - June 1: Recycling/Composting
Social and emotional skills are also very important to develop. We work to hlep children solve their problems and tell others how they feel. If children are arguing, we want them to work it out through communication. While we guide them with words and feelings, we strive to help your child become a strong communicator with high self-esteem who practices problem solving skills and cooperation.
