We help patients with many types of health conditions in our short-term rehab program. Some individuals will receive therapy in all areas - physical, occupational and speech - while others will focus on one specific area. To give you a clearer picture of what you can expect as a patient, please read the scenarios below.
Patient Recovering from a Stroke
Begin your day with breakfast, accompanied by our speech therapist who will work on eating techniques with you.
One of our CNAs will then come and bring you to a morning therapy session where you might practice balancing in a standing box and then receive some massage therapy to alleviate some swelling.
After a short rest and some lunch, it's back to the therapy gym to work on transitioning from sitting to standing with the aid of our parallel bars.
All work and no play is, well, no fun! We also have a variety of sensory group activities, including cooking activities, card games and crafts.
Patient with Congestive Heart Failure
You'll begin the day by practicing some of your activities of daily living and eating breakfast.
On the way to therapy, one of our CNAs will walk alongside you so that you can practice walking and boost your endurance.
During your therapy session, you'll work on gaining physical strength by using the pulleys, parallel bars and the arm bike.
After lunch, you'll enjoy some of our activities specifically designed to help our short-stay patients improve their strength and functioning.
Patient Recovering from an Orthopedic Procedure (like a knee or hip replacement)
Given that you are most concerned with gaining physical strength, your therapy sessions will be a bit more intense and focused on resuming your normal routine.
In the morning, you'll likely work on the activities of daily living and the pulley system, improving your muscle strength. After your structured therapy session, you'll get to relax a bit in your room or one of our common areas and maybe even bowl a few frames on our Nintendo Wii gaming system!
In the afternoon, you might go back to the therapy gym to ride a recumbent bike or if it's a nice day, you may walk outdoors where you can enjoy our garden areas and enjoy the sunshine!
