New Pre-Operative Holding Area

Chances are, if you’ve had surgery at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in the past, you’ve spent some time in a very small holding area right before surgery while your loved ones waited in another room.

Now prior to surgery, you might stay in a new, expanded pre-op holding area with your loved ones right by your side.

Located across the hall from the old pre-op area on Level 1, this newly refurbished space has doubled the number of patients that can be held prior to surgery from four to eight.

“The old area was so crowded, not only could we hold fewer patients at a time, but it was hard for the doctors and staff to properly assess and care for the patient,” states Cheryl Rotramel, Director of Perioperative Services.

As a child, did you ever wonder what goes on inside your body each day? Thanks to a $4,000 grant from the A.L. Webster Foundation to the HALO Project, an outreach program of Presence United Samaritans Medical Center’s Foundation, many of those questions will continue to be answered for second grade students throughout Vermilion County.

The HALO Project's "Body Walk" is an event designed to provide a hands-on interactive experience for second grade students with 13 individual booths set up to emulate different parts of the body, such as the mouth, stomach, heart, lungs and bones. Each child also visits six health booths consisting of skin care from the sun, avoidance of lice, importance of proper nutrition, dangers of smoking, proper eye care, and the hand washing “germ box” before being "shrunk" to the size of an inch.

They then tour various body parts from the "inside" as they enter through the mouth and “take a trip through the inside of the body.”
