For the safety and healing of our patients, a maximum of two visitors per patient will be allowed on the unit at one time. Only individuals who are 12 or older will be permitted to visit. Visitors bringing items for the patient will be asked to leave the items with staff upon arrival to the unit. All items must be checked for safety. If visitors are unable to come during the posted visiting hours due to special circumstances, arrangements can be made with the charge nurse or social worker. This off-hours visiting may not take place during group time or during testing procedures unless authorized by the charge nurse. Clergy or lawyers may visit a patient at any time.
To maintain the safety of the unit, visitors will not be permitted to bring any items (including purses and coats) onto the unit during visiting. All items brought up will be secured until the visitors leave the unit.
Patients may not visit other patient care areas of the hospital for any reason without special permission from the psychiatrist. Adult patients may not visit or have any contact with adolescent patients. Male and female patients are not allowed to visit in each other’s rooms.

In order to make the unit safe for everyone, we have several rules that must be followed. They may not always make sense to you or apply to your situation. For your own safety, please abide by these rules. If you have a question about why they are in place, please speak with the charge nurse, nurse manager or director. Though the rules may not fit your specific situation, they are in place to protect the unit for everyone.
Provena Saint Joseph Hospital is a non-smoking facility. Smoking cessation aids can be ordered if you are having difficulty with the limited smoking opportunities.
