Surgical Facilities
Provena Saint Joseph Hospital has 10 surgical suites to accommodate every surgical specialty, including general surgical, plastic, orthopedic, oral, urological, gynecological, thoracic, vascular, ophthalmologic and podiatric surgeries. Surgeons use the hospital's advanced endoscopy system, which allows them to utilize tiny video equipment to view the body's structures from inside.
Inpatient Surgery
After surgery, patients return to one of Provena Saint Joseph Hospital's inpatient units. Here a team of doctors, nurses and other health professionals work to promote healing. Patients sometimes undergo physical and occupational therapy or receive dietary counseling during their hospital stay, and pastoral caregivers and social workers are always available to provide encouragement and counsel. Before discharge, patients receive written instructions for home care and are sometimes given referrals for additional outpatient treatment.
Same-Day Surgery
Many surgeries that once required an overnight hospital stay are now offered on a same-day basis. These include arthroscopy of the knee, ankle and shoulder, breast biopsy, gall bladder removal, hernia repair, tonsillectomy and many other procedures.
