The Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation program at
PSJH provides a return to physiological,
psychological and vocational functioning through
aerobic exercise, education and counseling for
adults and older adults. A physician referral is
required prior to entering the program and a stress
test (graded or chemical) is preferred.
The program is in session 3 times a week for one
hour and lasts up to 12 weeks or 36 sessions.
Participants exercise in a large fitness center at
PSJH on a variety of aerobic equipment. Strength
training is also offered. Individualized programs
are provided.
The Phase 2 program is supervised by
competency-trained R.N’s and an exercise
physiologist. A licensed physician serves as Medical
Director. Each patient is placed on a small
telemetry monitor which enables staff to observe for
abnormal heart beats or irregularities. Blood
pressures are checked pre-, during and
post-exercise.
Body Mass Index and Risk Assessments are also
provided.
We are enrolled in a national database outcomes
group which helps us to benchmark other facilities.
A Phase 3 Maintenance program is available for
those individuals needing supervision only.
