Bella Baby Photography

Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center  presents a new photo service in the Family Birthing Suites which allows mothers, fathers and their new arrivals an opportunity to capture their babies first moments through professional photos.

Presence Saint Joe's created this new service through Bella Baby Photography, to create a new opportunity for families on the extremely special and joyous occasion of the birth of their child. The new photography offers families more photo options, which include more personal photos, more variety of styles, and more creative and unique poses. The photos capture the family's first days in a beautiful and artistic way, and include the mother and father in the photos instead of the standard baby headshot.

Jill Weitendorf, Patient Care Manager for Family Care Birthing Suites at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, implemented the new project for the hospital. She researched photographers, sampled different work, and found Bella Baby Photography as the best candidate for the position.

"Bella Baby Photography offers such a high quality photograph, with a unique and original style, that involves the whole family on their newborns first day," said Weitendorf. "This service is great to be a part of and we have already had positive feedback from the families."

Joan Cappelletti, Service Line Administrator for Woman and Children Services at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, also helped with the decision process for the photo service at the hospital.

"It was important to decide on a company that was unique and creates a more personalized approach," said Cappelletti. "Our prior photo service had a very limited amount of options available."

Nicole Hennings, an occupational therapist for the Medical Center, took part in the new photo service. Hennings and her husband Craig welcomed a baby boy, Blake Gregory Hennings, on August 23, 2007. Hennings felt that the photographer's unique style and open approach to suggestions made the experience more memorable.

"The photography was a big part of the experience because it is right in the hospital instead of waiting until you got home," she said. "Another important part was the photographer took suggestions and the photos were available that same day on the web so my whole family was able to view them."

Hennings mother-in-law, the Regional Director of Human Resources for the Presence Southwest Suburban Region, was very pleased with how the photos turned out.

"As a grandparent, knowing how special these first pictures are, I was overjoyed with how beautiful the photos turned out," says Cathy Hennings. "I've seen photos in the past and of course any baby photo is cute, but the way the parents were included in the photos and the availability of different poses and styles made them unique and a beautiful keepsake. Being a new mother can be overwhelming, and those first days home can be hectic and not allow the family to go out and have these newborn photos taken. This service being available right in the hospital is a truly wonderful asset for families."

Kelly Billington, CEO and President of Bella Baby Photography, has found a way to provide high quality, artistic photography for newborn babies - while they are still in the hospital. Billington, a professional photographer, was visiting a friend in the hospital who had just delivered a new baby.  On the spur of a moment she took out her camera and was able to capture studio-quality images of the newborn right in the hospital room. Everyone, from the parents to the nurses, was thrilled with the artistic quality of the  photographs and Billington new she was on to a solid business idea.

"My business statement is 'real photographers, real pictures' and is demonstrated through a photo journalistic approach, which captures that special moment at the time, while creating a beautiful piece of art," said Billington.

Different photo poses are available that include babies' full body, close-up, different body parts, and family. Also, new photos are available to view and order on the same day the photos are taken.  Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center offers the service to any mother who just delivered. The new program has an on site freelance photographer everyday and an appointment is not necessary. The photographers work with the new mothers by showing them their service and packages available, as well as making rounds to every mother in the delivery room.
