As part of the Provena Health system, our mission is to build communities of healing and hope. In December 1997, Provena Health was established as a new Catholic integrated healthcare delivery system, formed by the merger of Franciscan Sisters Healthcare Corporation, ServantCor, and Mercy Center for Health Care Services.
Adapted from the word “providence,” which means “divine guidance or care,” the name of our system is Provena Health. The word “Provena” was selected to indicate that we look to God for strength and guidance and seek to share this divine strength and guidance with those we serve. “Health” was selected to indicate that our healing ministry includes both the provision of healthcare and the promotion of health in mind, body and spirit.
