For infants with special needs, familes can depend on Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center's Level II Special Care Nursery with extended capabilites, the most advanced in the area. Our Special Care Nursery is designated by the State of Illinois as a Level II with extended capabilities, which means we have the clinical expertise and equipment to care for mothers with high-risk pregnancies, premature infants as young as 28 weeks gestation, and infants with certain illnesses.
Neonatologists (physicians trained in caring for sick or premature newborns) and experienced nursing staff offer round-the-clock care with the most sophisticated technology available to help babies grow healthy and strong. Our Special Care Nursery can accommodate up to 14 babies with special needs. And for families whose babies remain in the hospital after mom has been discharged, we have "nesting" rooms to give families a place of their own during hospital visits.
