Presence Saint Joseph Physical Rehab and Sports Injury Center offers outpatient aquatic therapy that promotes safer, faster rehabilitation and is a genuine source of comfort for our patients. Aquatic therapy is a very effective form of physical therapy. The water's buoyancy and warm temperature create an environment that defies gravity, relaxes muscles and reduces swelling, allowing patients to do more than if they were on land.
Our warm water therapeutic pool is the first and largest warm water therapeutic pool in the area, and is equipped with an underwater treadmill. It is also temperature-safe for pregnant women. The smaller pool, a SwimEx, is the same type and brand of warm water therapy pool used by more than 30 professional athletic teams at the major league level. The pools allow patients more buoyancy, freer movement, less impact on injuries and pain relief, as well as being a fun way to exercise.
In creating individualized therapy programs for each patient, the physical and occupational therapists utilize a variety of tools including flotation devices, dumbbells and underwater steps. The underwater treadmill and power jet system are used for more vigorous therapy.
