Provena Surgery Center Announced
01/07/2011

Provena Surgery Center Will Benefit Patients as a Department of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center

January 3, 2011, JOLIET, IL - The former Ambulatory Surgery Center of Joliet, located adjacent to the hospital, is now officially a department of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. The collaborative arrangement between PSJMC and the physician group continues much as in the past with the physicians retaining management responsibilities. Patients will experience a seamless transition.

As a department of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, the Provena Surgery Center will maintain the high standards of the hospital and will have greater oversight internally and externally. Patients have two options for hospital-based outpatient surgery, and more acute surgeries can be performed providing greater access and flexibility in scheduling.

With PSJMC’s continued growth as a leading surgical center, the Provena Surgery Center’s three ORs and two procedure rooms provide much needed additions to the hospital’s operating and procedure space and will help relieve the high demand for ORs in the hospital. PSJMC has consistently utilized its surgical suites significantly more hours than state expectation levels. The chance of having an elective procedure bumped from its planned time slot due to emergent cases, as occasionally happens with hospital operating rooms, is much less with the addition of the department.

“As a department of the hospital, the Provena Surgery Center can provide a greater service to the community as well as greater ease in scheduling procedures,” explains Jeff Brickman, Senior Vice President, Provena Health, and President & CEO, Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. “And yet we are able to retain the expertise of the same group of physicians who manage the center.” The same skilled staff remains, so patients will not experience any major changes. “Overall the change promises greater efficiencies and quality improvements, all of which benefit the patients,” added Mr. Brickman.
