Perinatologist Dr. Guillermo Provides Perinatology Care for High-Risk Patients
Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center now has a perinatologist, Dr. Guillermo Font, on the medical staff. A perinatalogist is an obstetrician specializing in maternal-fetal medicine and high-risk obstetrics whose services include pre-pregnancy consultation on issues such as age, medical concerns, family genetic complications, and genetic screening and testing, including advanced 3D/4D obstetric imaging services.
Quality Care Close to Home The addition of Dr. Font to the medical staff will ensure a greater level of care for patients in the Will-Grundy area. The current staff of OB/Gyne physicians at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center may refer their high-risk patients to Dr Font for consultation and collaboration. This allows continuation of quality care close to home. His office will be located in the Family Birthing Suites twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays mornings.
Dr. Font is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as maternal-fetal medicine. He has over 20 years of experience and has received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Universidad Complutense, in Madrid, Spain. He serves as Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago. His recent teaching and professional experience includes his role as Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush University medical Center, and he was also the Medical Consultant at the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Dr. Font has made presentations nationally and internationally on multiple births, fetal infections, and first trimester ultrasound detecting structural abnormalities.
Advanced Care Closer to Home for High-Risk Moms-to-Be Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center is designated by the State of Illinois as a Level II with extended capabilities for Neonatal and Perinatal services. This means The Family Birthing Suites and the Special Care Nursery staff have the clinical expertise and equipment to care for mothers with high-risk pregnancies, premature infants that are as young as 28 weeks gestation, and infants with certain illnesses. Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center is the only provider of neonatal care in the Will-Grundy area.
