Provena Health Again Recognized as a Top Technology Innovator
09/14/2011
The Provena Health Information Services team was recognized as a Top Innovator by InformationWeek 500 at a ceremony held on September 13, 2011.  Pictured left to right are John Romeo, System Manager, Enterprise Network and John Lynch, Chief Information Officer.

For the second year in a row, Provena Health has been named to the InformationWeek 500, a prestigious annual listing of the nation’s most innovative users of business technology. The health system is recognized for its innovative work to design, build and efficiently migrate data systems to its state-of-the art technology center.

“It’s an honor to be included among the elite group of organizations selected as this year’s InformationWeek 500,” said John Lynch, System Vice President, Chief Information Officer. “This recognition only further underscores the commitment of our dedicated Provena Health Information Services team to seamlessly supporting patient and resident care and finding innovative solutions that enhance the experience individuals have with our ministries.”

The Provena Health Information Services team is being recognized for its efforts to seamlessly transition the health system’s entire data center to a new state-of-the art building. In addition to designing and custom building the new space, the Provena Health team transitioned its servers by converting from physical to virtual platforms, which significantly increased efficiency of the migration. As a result, this innovative approach not only saved the organization nearly 1,500 personnel hours and nearly a half million dollars but, more importantly, the dramatic decrease in downtime allowed care teams to continue to provide the same high quality care and services, even during a significant information technology transition.

“For 23 years, the InformationWeek 500 has chronicled and honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. “In this day and age, however, being innovative isn’t enough. Companies and their IT organizations need to innovate faster than ever before to stay a step or two ahead of their customers, partners and competitors. This year’s ranking placed special emphasis on those high-octane business technology innovators.”

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. Top winners have included: The Vanguard Group, CME Group, Conway, National Semiconductor, Kimberly-Clark, Hilton Hotels and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
